The Morning Call
The swearing-in ceremony of US President Donald Trump was surrounded by protests after protests across the United States. The Women’s March is considered to be among the biggest ever protest movement against Donald Trump.
The event gathered hundreds of thousands of women who marched to show their support for women’s rights in the face of changes that a Trump presidency might bring.
Representing Africa during the march was Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo, the West African music icon from Benin. She was among the artists who performed during the march in front of 500,000 people.

This year’s Oscars will not be an all-white affair like it was last year and even in the previous years. The nominations have offered more diversity with several non-white actors and directors up for an Oscar. For example Denzel Washingon is vying for best lead actor for the movie “Fences”, Ruth Negga has been nominated for best actress for the movie “Loving”, Viola Davis, Naomie Harris and Octavia Spencer were announced as nominees in the best supporting actress.
